Why you shouldn’t overlook home photos
The number one spot people request photos is in a beautiful field, but I find that real magic can be made in your home. It’s secretly my favorite location because they always render the most tender and sweetest of moments that make even me emotional.
I’ll even find myself tearing up while working on photos because I can see all the love there is behind your front door. Trust me, no one will be looking to see if your house is too small or whatever excuse you have in your head. Your home is perfect just the way it is because of the people who fill it. Here are a few other reasons why you shouldn’t be so quick to pass on doing photos in your home.
No worrying about the weather - Let’s face it, here in Illinois winter seems to lasts about 75% of the year. In home sessions mean you don’t have to brace the elements. You get to stay nice & warm and snuggle all day. No rearranging your day around snow/rain/wind/polar vortex. Especially no driving in that either. Also, no need to take out the calendar to reschedule!
Good bye commute - If your children are anything like my little one, it can be a real struggle to get everyone showered, dressed,
buckled into the car, and on the road on time! By not having to drive, you give yourself an extra little cushion of time. Which can make all the difference and much less stressful for everyone.
3. Shoes are optional - when at home you don’t have to worry about finding matching shoes or wearing some that are uncomfortable. They’re totally optional! I say take those shoes off and let your toes free.
4. Kiddos are most comfortable at their house - I’ve met all kinds of children, from the outgoing daredevil to the more reserved. One thing I’ve noticed though, most of them tend to open up more easily when when they’re at home. These make the best photos. Since their house is likely the place they feel most safest they are more themselves and it makes for a smooth experience and some of the sweetest moments.
5. Meaningful memories - One of my favorite things about working in homes is that they make beautiful memories. We get to take photos of you all swinging and playing on the old tire swing from your own childhood home. Rock your little baby to sleep in the chair you used for all of your other boys. Bake cookies in the apron your mom passed down to you. The photos taken in your home are more meaningful than in any other place.
